A Place I Didn’t Belong validates the sometimes devastating experiences of adoptive parenthood while offering hope, practical coping strategies, and spiritual renewal for the journey ahead. The trajectory of unmet expectations, our children’s compromised beginnings, and the wounds we carry into our adoptions conspire to take us to a place we didn’t belong. Insights on emotional healing help us reclaim hope for our adoption journey. This is not a how-to or a ten-easy-steps-to successful parenting program. It’s about real life, real women, and real struggles. It’s about relationships and community. It’s about reclaiming ourselves as women when adoption dreams shatter. It’s about a journey that begins in our mother’s heart, and delivers us to the place we do belong - into our Father’s arms.

Adoptive moms who struggle with the issues this book addresses can feel like the most beaten-up, misunderstood, battle-scarred people on earth. This book was recommended by a family member who knew I was struggling with excruciatingly painful issues as an adoptive parent. I found the stories shared by other adoptive mothers to be my favorite part. It's reaffirming to know I'm not the only one going through this. So often we feel blamed by society for the issues our children are having, heaping hot coals on someone who is already in the furnace of affliction. When a book comes along and gives you the strength to face even another day, it is well worth its price. Sometimes I think I would like to start a support group, as this book is the format for.Product details

A Place I Didn't Belong edition by Paula Freeman Religion Spirituality eBooks Reviews
Very good book and helpful in your joinery in a place where we did'nt belong. I found myself on ths journey in my "golden years"
Awesome book if you are struggling at processing your adoption. Perfect for people recently home or those that have been home for a season. Highly recommend.
We used this book as part of our womens small group for church. As adoptive mom's of special needs kids we have found it to be amazingly insightful and helpful in our journey with our kids. Paula has lots of wonderful ways of looking at things and worksheets to help you reflect on your life and how that chapter pertains to your situation. Would highly recommend this book!
Great for adoptive moms! Encouraging chapters/ journaling as you read and reflect. Personal stories of moms who have had kids in hard places with hard stuff. Very healing. It's not a "fluffy" surface study.
Should be at requirement for any adoptive mom. So helpful, though can be difficult as it makes you probe deeply.
I am the adoptive Mom of 3 children domestically adopted from foster care. This book hugs me, points me in the right direction emotionally, uplifts me and loves me in a way only another adoptive Mom can. If you don't have this book RUN and get it. Buy it for your friend who has adopted children. Buy it and leave it in the laundry mat for an adoptive Mom to find. I would give it 100 stars if I could.
I'm only half way through this book and it has spoken such (hard) truth to me. Raising an adopted child isn't all sunshine and roses and this book is written by someone who understands! To realize that I went into adoption with rosy glasses, high expectations, and having the reality of adoption being dark and ugly and to have those high expectations shattered is a lonely place. I highly recommend this study for all adoptive parents dealing with children from hard places, and do this study with fellow moms too. It has really spoken to me and helped me on the way to healing.
